Ruby Yu-Yen LAI
A photographer and visual artist with a background in music, she holds a Master’s degree in Music from Taipei National University of the Arts.
Rooted in music and the performing arts, she gradually turned to photography as a medium for both creation and expression. Her photographic work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions, and her series Flowing Landscapes was selected for the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi International Photography Contest. She has also been invited to give photography talks and lectures at universities and arts organizations.
Her work often draws from music, perception, and personal experience, exploring how abstract sensations—such as time, emotion, and sound—can be translated into photographic and visual language.
Alongside her ongoing photography and visual practice, she founded and runs Sunday Morning Bar, a creative art space in Taichung that hosts photography, performances, workshops, and a range of cultural events. Through this experience, she has developed a growing interest in the relationship between individual artistic practice, independent art spaces, and the wider cultural ecosystem.
She believes that both photography and music are beautiful ways of speaking.
